EVENTS AND FUN JULY - SEPTEMBER 2007

(7/7) Summertime means a trip to watch birds. This time we saw a new species, Yellow-Shouldered Amazon (Amazona barbadensis)...

(8/7) ...And at another location, cute Chinese nightingales.

(9/7) This was however the cutest on the trip. Is it Gruff? No, this is another youngster, fifty days old and extremely cute! It is hard to imagine that Gruff once was that small.

(10/7) One day we visited the Sofiero Castle, and they even had one for birds.

(14-16/7) After the trip, it was time to relax at the cottage. As always, one of the four did not calm down...

...When the harness is something that does not bother him...

...He takes any opportunity he can to play around.

(19-27/7) When the batteries was recharged at the cottage, they annual trip to Norway and scuba diving was on the agenda.

(1-5/8) When Norway was done and everything dry again, we went back to the cottage, and once again the same one did not calm down...

(12/8) When the four week holiday was over, the third event with the bird club took place. This time the weather was with us...

...Moist air and water in the grass triggered Gruff to take a shower.

(17-19/8) At least one thing was good with the bad summer; mushrooms are thriving in the forests.

(26/8) Today is the day when Gobi passed away. Now two years has passed and the pain is still hard to carry.

(24-26/8) Oops, sorry I lost the pine cone! Once more we spent the weekend at the Summerhouse.

Filuren took the opportunity to play...

...Gruff was also joining the game...

...When finished, it is nice to sit and hide in the spruce...

...or an oak.

Youschi also played...

and got a shower afterwards.

When indoor again and the dinner was to an end, Gruff tried to find some milk.

And Filuren made a try for Fia.

The last group picture for this year with a summer theme.

(29/8) A typical position for Youschi, satisfied.

(3/9) Gruff likes to play and when really into it, he forgets that at least one foot should be used for standing and grabs the toy with both his feet and beak...

Even when it should be possible even for a parrot to sit on his behind, he normally fells over to the side.

(8/9) The last summer meeting got bad weather and we had to go indoors.

And as always, some where a bit tired.

Others were more alert...

...including Hubba that made for a stroll on the ground.

When at home again, disaster struck. We had a lodger at home that Youschi did not like when he was sitting in Youschi's cage. When Youschi attacked the much bigger parrot, he got badly bitten over the beak resulting in a hole into the sinus.

(14/9) Youschi got bitten on a Sunday and when visiting the veterinary on Monday, we got instructions on what to do. First, turn the bird upside down and flush the nostril with 20ml of salt-solution. Shake out the remaining drops...

...One nose drop...

and finally antibiotics. Once a day for ten days.

At the health check the week before we went to Norway, the veterinary could hear a faint sound from Filuren's right lung. We were told that this was nothing to worry about, but that we should check this when the holiday was over. Late in August we got some medication, antibiotics three times a day...

and anti-fungus once a day.

This meant that we during a period of a few days now had two sick birds, one nose drop and five syringes a day to give the birds. Luckily, they tolerated this treatment fairly well.

When the medication was done, everything went back to normal with some playing....

...and other's sleeping.

(21-23/9) It is getting darker and the temperature drops sometimes to a few degrees above zero. Still, there are occasions when we can get outside.

The journey continues over October - December.
